What does it mean to be a Master’s Level Social Work Intern?
To be a Master’s Level Social Work Intern means that one would need to have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university as well as have one year of their Master’s program complete with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Abby is currently in her second year of her Master’s program and will graduate in August of 2023 with her Master’s Degree in Social Work. Prior to her advanced internship at Mindful Counseling, she spent 8 months at a psychiatric hospital during her foundation year internship in which she saw patients in a one-on-one setting, led group therapy sessions, conducted psychosocial assessments as well as made collateral calls to family members updating them on their loved ones progress during their time in in-patient. In order to successfully complete her advanced year internship, she will need to obtain 480 hours of contact with future clients, as well as attend weekly check-ins with her direct supervisor and monthly check-ins with her field supervisor through the University of Texas at Arlington. She will be supervised by Michelle Larson, also a University of Texas at Arlington graduate, who has obtained her LMSW and LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Work). Michelle is the Clinical Director of Mindful Counseling as well as a therapist on staff.
